An electric compact crossover, the Macan EV sells alongside the gas Macan. It takes on the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Audi Q6 E-Tron.
It’s about as practical as any compact SUV, but the Macan EV is fast, agile, and efficient. It scores a high 8.0 on the TCC scale. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
This report covers the Macan EV. For a rundown of the Macan gas model, check out our 2024 review.
The Macan EV arrived late in the 2024 model year in 4 and Turbo models, both with all-wheel drive. For 2025, it adds a rear-wheel-drive base model and the all-wheel-drive 4S model.
Based on the VW Group’s new Premium Platform Electric architecture that it shares with the forthcoming Audi Q6 E-Tron, the Macan EV has a 100-kwh battery pack with 95 kwh of usable capacity and a standard rear motor. All but the base model add a front motor as well.
The Macan EV is slightly bigger than the Macan gas model, with a 113.9-inch wheelbase that is 2.4 inches longer and a 188.9-inch overall length that is 2.3 inches longer. It takes on a similar look, especially in the profile where it sends its large wheels and tires to the corners and has an almost fastback roofline that imparts a sporty look but saps some cargo space. Up front, the hood is set low, but it bulges at the sides where it leads into four-element LED headlights. The front fascia is squared off and darkened at the bottom. The dark lower area is reflected at the rear, where a full-width taillight bar sits up top.
Inside, the dash has a 12.6-inch curved digital instrument cluster and a 10.9-inch center touchscreen for infotainment. Another 10.9-inch touchscreen is available for the front passenger. A shift lever sits behind a small-diameter steering wheel on the right side with a start button on the left side, in typical Porsche positioning. The dash borrows its horizontal theme from the 911.
Interior space isn’t better than the fairly cramped gas model, despite the longer wheelbase. A 6-footer can fit behind another 6-footer, but that’s pushing it for headroom and legroom in the second row. Three across in the back is possible only if they are kids; Porsche acknowledges this by calling the Macan EV a 4+1 seater. Cargo space tops out at 18.0 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 46.5 cubes with the rear seats folded, plus 2.9 cubic feet in the front trunk. Even with the front trunk, that’s less overall room than the gas model, though it’s still rather practical.
Buyers have a choice of horsepower figures that start at 335 hp for the base model, and improve to 402 hp in the 4, 509 hp in the 4S, and 630 hp in the Turbo. Those numbers are all available in an overboost mode that lasts 10 seconds. While the Macan EV weighs as much as 5,400 pounds, its 0-60 mph times are quicker than the gas model’s, ranging from 5.4 to a scant 3.1 seconds. Power is strong and immediate, and it’s delivered either without a peep or with a spaceship whir with an optional artificial sound. Brake regen is tied to the drive mode, but it can also be set via the touchscreen.
Range is good in any model, starting at 315 miles for the base model, dropping slightly to 308 miles for the 4 model, and coming at a still useful 288 miles for the 4S and Turbo models. An 800-volt electrical architecture allows the Macan EV to charge at up to 270 kw, which can charge from 10-80% in 21 minutes.
Handling meets the Porsche standard despite the excess weight. Drivers can feel the weight move below them in corners, but the standard air suspension and adaptive dampers help the mass quickly settle down. From there, the Macan EV turns sharply and tracks true. It can also move that weight quickly in the other direction for agile handling through ess turns.
While the Macan EV hasn’t yet been crash tested it does have plenty of standard safety features, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, front and rear parking sensors, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, and a driver-attention monitor.
How much does the 2025 Porsche Macan EV cost?
The Macan EV base model starts at $77,295, including a $1,995 destination charge. It comes standard with leather upholstery, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging, a 10.9-inch center touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic roof, air suspension, adaptive dampers, and all-season tires on 20-inch alloy wheels.
The range extends to $107,295 for a Macan EV Turbo, and a variety of options can bring the total to more than $130,000 pretty easily.
